Executive Director

Urban Movement Labs (UML) is a first-of-its-kind organization that drives innovative transportation solutions by linking government, industry leaders, and local communities in Los Angeles. Using technology solutions to tackle modern mobility challenges, UML tests, proves, and brings to life transportation technologies through its three flagship pillars – 1) an ideas accelerator, 2) workforce and economic development initiatives, and 3) a network of urban proving grounds.

  • Oversee development of innovative programs and ensure projects are effectively completed on time, within scope, and within budget while exceeding partner and community expectations.

Partner Engagement and Industry Thought Leadership.

  • Cultivate relationships with current and prospective UML partners to learn about their priorities and ensure UML is providing targeted engagement opportunities.
  • Maintain regular check-ins with UML private and public sector partners and the Mayor’s Office.
  • Facilitate conversations within, and between, diverse and disadvantaged communities about mobility needs, challenges, and racially equitable solutions.
  • Identify and cultivate strategic relationships with partner organizations across the public, private, and non-profit sectors, including funders, business interests, individuals in agencies, policymakers, and elected officials who are interested in shared mobility planning, research, and programs.
  • Represent UML and the City of Los Angeles on issues related to transportation tech innovation at conferences and workshops, in thought leadership pieces, and in the media.

Organizational Growth and Fundraising.

  • Responsible for the overall financial health of the organization, including the preparation and submittal of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource allocation, and maintains the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Maintain good standing as a 501c3 organization.
  • Expand UML sponsorships by cultivating new P3 project approaches, identifying new partners and new sources of funding.
  • Ensure timely and effective monitoring of, and responses to, solicitations and requests for proposals, along with grants applications, management, oversight, and reporting.
  • Oversee effective management, and evaluation, of programs to identify new areas for potential development and iteration.
  • Define, track, and document success metrics to report to the Board of Urban Movement Labs
